The Asian and Oceanian Federation of Conservative Dentistry (AOFCD) was constituted in Seoul, Korea on January 31, 2018. The AOFCD is a non-commercial, non-profit making organization and ConsAsia is its biennial scientific meeting. The scope of the AOFCD will apply to the collection of countries included in the Asian and Oceanian geographic region and disciplines of Conservative Dentistry and related fields for the conservation of natural teeth and dentition. The objective of the AOFCD is to contribute to the internationalization of member organizations and their members and to the construction of a network among the clinicians, researchers, and scholars of Asian and Oceanian countries, and as a result, to contribute to the improvement of the oral health of the populations in these areas.

Can be part of the AOFCD:
Any national society, association, or other organization in the field of Conservative Dentistry and related disciplines in Asia and Oceania shall be eligible to apply for Full Membership of the AOFCD. Such an organization must be able to demonstrate that it is promoting national and, where appropriate, international standards of excellence and the development of new knowledge and understanding in the field of Conservative Dentistry and related topics for the conservation of natural teeth and dentition.

In the early days of 2016, the ConsAsia initiative was proposed by the Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry (KACD) as a way to internationalization of the academy and its members and for constructing a network among the clinicians, researchers, and scholars of Asian and Oceanian countries, and as a result, to contribute to improving the oral health of the populations in these areas.

At first, scholars from 9 countries (Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Taiwan) agreed with the initiative and met first in Seoul, Korea, on Oct 21, 2016 (First preparatory meeting). According to the decision of the first preparatory meeting, the local organizing committee (LOC) for the first ConsAsia 2019 meeting was composed in Korea in January, 2017. LOC prepared the Constitution and Bylaws of AOFCD and Guidelines for ConsAsia scientific meeting. Main topics of ConsAsia 2019 was suggested by the participants of the 1st preparatory meeting and LOC as Cariology, Preventive Dentistry, Minimal invasive treatment, Vital pulp therapy, Dental education, Adhesives, Resin-based composites, Ceramic, Zirconia, CAD/CAM, Novel biomaterials, and New technologies. LOC has figured out world-widely well-known Keynote speakers and constructed the scientific programs. LOC is asking each country organization for recommending country representative speakers. The draft of Constitution and Bylaws of AOFCD, Guidelines for ConsAsia scientific meeting, and the rough draft for the Keynote speakers and scientific programs were discussed during the second preparatory meeting in Sharjah, UAE, on Nov 16, 2017.

ConsAsia team attended 3 international meetings for promoting ConsAsia initiative. LOC loaned the essential budget about 120,000 USD from KACD to prepare the first ConsAsia meeting. LOC of ConsAsia 2019 determined the venue (Grand Ballroom of COEX, Seoul, Korea). Different from the ConsEuro, the ConsAsia meeting will be supported by the Korean Endodontics society, the Korean Academy of Adhesive Dentistry, as well as the Korean Academy of the Conservative Dentistry. We are constructing the homepage for the AOFCD and ConsAsia meeting 2019 (www.consasia.org), to which we will add contents continuously.

During the 2nd preparatory meeting in Sharjah, UAE, on Nov 16, the 21 participants from 8 countries agreed most of the agenda. Professor Dean Hien Chih Ngo will organize the Regional ConsAsia meeting as an international meeting at Sharjah in December 16-17, 2018. The constitution and Bylaws of AOFCD and ConsAsia meeting was revised according to the decision of Sharjah meeting. The corporation for the AOFCD will be established in Seoul, in January, 2018. The membership application will be open in Spring, 2018.
